Third Party Logistics and Automation

I found this article very interesting.  The article is a nice review of what to keep in mind when looking for a third party logistics partner.  In addition, it focuses on automation and the future.  I think it is important to find a logistics partner that understands at what point it is necessary to automate.  An experienced ecommerce DC can run several million units without automation, if they have the right people and experience.  It is also important to keep in mind that automation is not a shortcut in some cases, and can limit an operation that is always changing. A highly automated facility is ideal for high volumes and standardized processes, and if you have to take a process offline it is important to have a flexible and experienced crew. MKM has found great success in implementing new technologies and automation when necessary to address the demands of a rapidly changing industry, but we always maintain a well trained laborforce because flexibility is core to our success and the success of our cutomer's.
